Debris Burning Open – Effective October 24, 2022

Residential yard debris burning within the La Pine Fire District is now OPEN in both Deschutes and Klamath County. The burn season is weather dependent and generally runs from Mid-October to Mid-April.

The burn line must be called before each burn to ensure burning is open for that day. Also watch the weather forecast closely when burning. If high or gusty winds and/or high temperatures are expected, burning must be immediately  extinguished.

You must always have a Burn Permit on site, follow all guidelines therein, and call the Burn Information Line at 541-536-9056 prior to burning.  Burn permits are free and are also available at each fire station and at the administrative office.  They are located in a white mailbox outside the front door.  It is not necessary to call the business office.  Burn permits are self-monitoring; no personal information will need to be provided before burning.

Campfires are allowed with a permit and only in established and approved campfire rings no larger than 3’ diameter and must use cut firewood and/or charcoal briquettes to reduce the chance of sparks.  A shovel and bucket of water is required at every campfire and it must be dead out before you leave the site. Permits for campfires are free and available on-line, or at any of the district’s fire stations.

The La Pine Fire District strongly encourages citizens to continue to FireWise homes and properties to
protect from wildfire. Options for pine needle and ladder fuel debris disposal at this time are to (1) chip on site,         (2) haul to the county transfer site, or (3) pile and cover the materials in a safe location and burn later in the fall after the first snow.
